The United States Embassy in Austria has invited Rene Geneva to share her experiences in the Green Fashion Industry with a special show debuting her new eco-friendly line on October 14, 2010 in the historic "Marble Room" of the Vienna Völkerkundemuseum. This is the first time the Embassy has decided to put on a show such as this to help "educate" the public in foreign countries regarding the efforts of citizens of the United States to help make our world a better place.
As one of the few fashion designers who "went green" long before it was trendy, long-time Fair Trade advocate Geneva has been on many a fashionista's radar thanks to an exclusive line sold through Whole Foods Market, and multiple appearances at Mercedes Benz Fashion Week. She took time away from fashion earlier this year to tour a potential new fair trade project in Guatemala, complete training in solar-electric design and install, and simply 'be a mom.'
In Vienna, Geneva will break her fashion-fast with an artistic collection that fits modern with historic -- with elements ranging from ultra-femme bustles to structured motorcycle jackets. In respect of 'slow fashion', Geneva will show both Spring and Fall seasons for 2011. Fabrics include luxurious peace silks, organic wools, and soft hemp blends such as Hempsilk -- generously donated by Enviro Textiles out of Colorado.
Students of the pristine Schloss Hetzendorf Fashion School will also receive Geneva's motivational presentation "Getting on the Plane," discussing how in the realm of social responsibility it takes one person with motivation and competence to make a difference -- that has been presented before in other fashion-portant forums such as FGI's Career Day at Dallas Mart.
Karin Czerny, head of press for the Embassy in Austria, says they were "impressed with Rene's commitment to the environment and thought that Rene would make a great cultural Ambassador to Austria - to shine a light on what is being done in the fashion realm in the U.S. .... and she shows that you don't have to sacrifice beauty in design to be eco-friendly."
The show is being co-produced and moderated by the fashion guru Mario Soldo, organizer and creator of special fashion events by his company Mother Agency. Models are wearing tights sponsored by Wolford and shoes sponsored by Humanic. Ana Castro, fresh off an impressive show of her own, will both co-produce and create enormous, French Revolution-kissed wigs, and models will wear dazzling jeweled accessories that one would never guess were recycled bits and pieces by Jennifer Ayers of Ayers Design. The heart of the show will be scored by a live, exclusive composition by violinist Shane O'Madden, of the world renowned band Govinda who has worked with popular bands such as Thievery Corporation and Ninja Tunes own DJ Spooky.
Melissa Shea of Fashionably Connected will also join to film the event for those wishing to view remotely online.
With its historic commitment to green policies, and a populace that embraces an environmentally-friendly lifestyle, Vienna is a natural fit for Geneva's fashion philosophy. "We are thrilled the Embassy invited us to put together this show," says Geneva, "and are honored to give the city the first peek at everything we've been working on this season."
Amazon.com announced the "Heidi Klum for New Balance" collection is now available exclusively at Amazon.com.
"Like so many of our customers, Heidi is a busy mom who cares about fashion and ease in equal measure. The line is amazing – gorgeous fabrics, incredibly styled – and we're thrilled to be launching it in the Amazon Clothing Store," said Cathy Beaudoin, vice president, Apparel, at Amazon.
The "Heidi Klum for New Balance" collection includes tunics, knits, woven tops, leggings and outerwear pieces, all created for active women and featuring high-end fabrics, such as cashmere blends, cottons and silks.
"Finding and making the perfect basic is a major challenge, and I think with this collection we rose up to that challenge. When I gave the Project Runway designers the opportunity to create a look for my collection, they thought it would be easy but soon realized how hard it is! A great basic with an interesting twist is special and catches the eye--it makes you want to turn to it in your wardrobe again and again," said Klum.
"I think this collection does achieve that perfect blend of versatility and uniqueness. I'm also excited to have partnered with Amazon. I love the convenience of shopping online on my own time and having packages delivered to my doorstep – it doesn't get much easier than that!"
The "Heidi Klum for New Balance" collection is available in the United States and in the United Kingdom, Germany, France and Japan later in the month, all exclusively on Amazon.

Europe must speak with one voice when it comes to China, a senior official of the Italian Foreign Ministry said Monday.
It is crucial that the European union (EU) understands the importance of "appearing united on the global scene," especially with regard to EU-China relations, said Giampiero Massolo, secretary general of the Foreign Ministry, at the presentation of the 10th position paper on China issued by the European Chamber of Commerce in China.
"Europe must build a common position, given that the relationship with China cannot be addressed at a national level by each single member state individually," he said.
The position paper on China is one of the most important publications on business in China. It analyzes both opportunities and challenges of doing business in China.
Paolo Zegna, vice president of Italy's leading industrial association Confindustria, said he agreed with Massolo.
China represented an incredible opportunity for European firms wanting to do business there, he added.
Among the main recommendations of the report, to be presented to the European Commission -- the EU's executive arm -- and to all member states, is the need of increasing dialogue between the European and Chinese counterparts.
We choose and believe Yiwu city is a best place to build the Direct Leather Sales Center, this is because Yiwu will be a window to the world for leather and leather products exports, said Li Shaokui, the center responsible person told our reporter.
Yiwu is small commodities center in China, but people in Yiwu city have to go to Haining for buying the latest fashion leather clothing, now just half a year the center attracts over one hundred of leather brand opening their stores here.
The 80% of stores in the center are opened by manufacturers, leather products in the center sold are directly from manufacturers.
The leather products producers hope to seek direct buyers from home and abroad through the Yiwu Direct Sale Center, because Yiwu city is well known for its small commodities in the world. The six leading companies listed in the top ten leather clothing brands establish the outlets on the center.
