Despite the recession, top models are raking in millions of dollars, with Brazilian Gisele Bundchen, German Heidi Klum and Briton Kate Moss the biggest earners.
Bundchen, the 29-year-old beauty who is married to U.S. football player Tom Brady is the world's highest-paid model, making $25 million last year, according to forbes.com.
Klum, the 36-year-old mother of four and host of the television show Project Runway, came in second with $16 million in earnings, followed by fashionista Moss, also 36, who made earned $9 million, through modeling campaigns and the launch of her own fashion line and a new fragrance.
It is the second year the same three models topped the list, which is largely due to a risk-averse fashion industry that was not looking for new faces in the unstable economic climate, said Steve Bertoni, of Forbes.
"These contracts were written during the doldrums of the recession," Bertoni said. "So when companies decided on the faces of their campaigns, they wanted to play it safe," he said in an interview.
Another Brazilian, Adriana Lima, 28, came in fourth with a $7.5 million salary. Dutch model Doutzen Kroes, 25, who shot to fame in 2005 when selected "Model of the Year" by Vogue, placed fifth with $6 million.
"These are the tried and true supermodels of the last decade ... the household names of the industry," Bertoni said.
The only American on the list is 36-year-old Carolyn Murphy, who is the face of Estee Lauder, Roberto Cavalli and Anne Klein. She earned $3.5 million to grab the 10th spot.

According to Le Quoc An, Chairman, Vietnam National Textile and Garment Group, it is anticipated that the clothing exports during 2010 would rise by 15 percent, and that it would also touch US $20 billion by 2020.
During a meeting with the cotton producers from Africa in Hanoi on May 8, Le Quoc An stated that, Vietnam with a work force of two million workers in apparel sector is amongst the top 10 garment exporting countries. Also, during the previous year the sector through its exports had generated total revenue amounting to $9 billion.
Some portions of the regions in the country are considered just perfect for cotton cultivation but they cater only to 10 percent of country’s overall demand. This year, in the first quarter itself 92,000 tonnes of cotton was imported in the country, whereas during the entire previous year 300,000 tonnes of cotton was imported.
While Africa, India and US are the leading suppliers of cotton to Vietnam, around 50 percent of this is imported from different African regions.
With the country’s cotton requirement likely to rise by one million tons per year, Vietnam is hunting for other markets from where it can procure good quality cotton.
Huge flawless diamonds and pieces by Cartier, Bulgari and other big-name jewelers sold for several times estimated prices at a Sotheby's sale on Tuesday night, the auctioneer said.
The semi-annual sale in Geneva, Europe's capital for jewels at auction, netted 60 million Swiss francs ($54.10 million), nearly double the low end of its pre-sale estimate.
"There were very, very strong prices for high-quality jewels. A mix of period pieces, jewels of royal provenance and spectacular gems all found new owners, many times exceeding the estimate," David Bennett, chairman of Sotheby's Europe and Middle East jewelry department, told Reuters.
Some 50 percent of lots sold for above their estimate, he said. "It's a tremendous result."
Top lot was a blue cushion-shaped diamond weighing 7.64 carats, mounted in a yellow gold and platinum ring, which went for a whopping 8.93 million francs to an anonymous buyer who paid double the pre-sale estimate.
"This is a world record per carat for a fancy, intense blue diamond at auction," Bennett told a packed salesroom as he brought down the hammer to applause.
A white emerald-cut diamond weighing 52.82 carats, which he called "one of the most beautiful stones to come to auction for several years", fetched 8.8 million francs after hectic bidding.
It went to a U.S. jewelry dealer, according to Sotheby's, whose pre-sale estimate was just over 7 million francs for the flawless stone with top grading for polish and symmetry.
A stunning ring by Alexandre Reza mounted with a vivid blue diamond of 5.02 carats alongside a white diamond of the same pear-shape of 5.42 carats sold for 7.026 million francs to a private collector.
Bennett said it was a world record at auction for a piece designed by the French jeweler. Sotheby's pre-sale estimate was $4 million to $7 million.
"It is a sublime ring, the two stones are complementary and perfectly proportional. It's extraordinarily chic," he said.
Several pieces belonging to Brazilian socialite Lily Marinho found new owners, including an emerald and diamond necklace and matching ear clips and ring which fetched 1.2 million francs, tripling its pre-sale estimate.
"Lily has often been photographed wearing it, to those living in Brazil it is very familiar," Bennett said.
Raju Kothari, a Hong Kong-based jewelry dealer, told Reuters after the sale: "I got four or five items. Prices are high but if you want to own rare things you have to pay."
Rival Christie's has estimated it could fetch between 23 million and 33 million francs at its Wednesday night sale.
Its star lot is a flawless rectangular-cut white diamond of 40.21 carats, estimated at $4.5 million to $5.5 million.
